Extron E320 File Transfer

Postby Casper » Sat May 14, 2016 3:11 pm

My father retired from CNC work about a year ago. About two months ago, I re-opened his workshop. There is this CNC mill from Extron: Extron E320. It has a MIRL Milling 2000 control. There is a bit of communication problem in the system making it hard to transfer files to it. There is Rs232 port and a network card. I had a floppy fitted to the USB emulator and is clearly showing the USB stick in DOS. Despite doing so well, it has failed to communicate through the control program. Any help from you guys? What could be the problem?

Why don’t you try using the regular and null modem cable? It may solve the problem.

I can see the endless problems that you will have if you are talking of a controller which uses RS232 or a floppy disk. The machine is good but that controller must be obsolete.

Does it have an Ethernet port? Check that is connected well

The problem could be on the setting of the RS232. Find someone who can set it correctly for you. As for the controller using floppy or Rs232, I see no problem at all.

What OS does your PC use? If it is Windows 7, then you won’t read your folders. I had a similar problem until a friend told me to install Windows XP on my PC.

Another thing is that the machine should be using a PC-based Controller. Mine had one which was running DOS 6.62.
