How do I lift a big heavy lathe?

Postby ItsutsaM » Tue May 03, 2016 3:51 pm

I just bought a big lathe that weighs about 700kgs. Unfortunately, my workshop is located at a higher point in my garden. I can’t figure out how to negotiate my garden in order to move the lathe to the workshop. There are several slabs on the way, a few steps and a slope. Any ideas?

Try using a hoist engine and some plywood sheets probably 18mm.

The lathe will be delivered in two days time and the person who will deliver it says he has some ‘skates’. He says that they require a flat surface. Will the plywood help?

I have some experience with hoist engine. It will mean you will have to raise the lathe on blocks. That will give you a clearance below in order to put the hoist’s legs. This will be are repetitive process.
