How Do I Replace Control Membranes ?

Postby Youngster » Sun Mar 13, 2016 4:47 pm

Hello guys,
I want to make some changes on the control unit of my 1990 VS50. I would like to replace the old membranes with some new ones but I don’t know how to go buy. Will it be difficult to replace the membranes? I have also seen some Chinese sets being advertised on the internet. How are they in terms of fit and quality? Anyone with experience with these Chinese sets?

I recently tried replacing mine and it is the hardest thing to do. It is very hard to remove the old membranes as well as the glue used to hold them on. I sought some help from a friend and he recommended that after removing the old membrane, I clean out the residue from the plate using rubbing alcohol. You should also clean the residue just before you place the new membrane.

The Chinese ones are just flat sheets which lack the OEM quality. They are stiffer and lack the depression for the button areas

When you succeed in removing the glue (which is the hardest part), you need to be very keen in placing the new membrane. The new ones come with a permanent adhesive backing. This means that you need make proper placement (The first time) by aligning it correctly with the button cutouts.
