I've built a 36*24 router

Postby IndieDev » Sun Nov 22, 2015 12:42 am

Greetings all,
I just rebuilt an old machine that i bought. It had a 80/20 guard on it and I was able to get the components for free. Having a 3040 machine i think its time for an upgrade.

I tore down the guard and sorted out the parts I could use. The extrusions were just rough sawed so Ill be refacing them on the boring mill. I will have to make the gantry risers but the stock I had. I have enclosed a pdf of the parts I was able to get. I just purchased the bearings from CRP for the gantry slide. The base will be 3030 and 3060. Take a look and I would like to hear your thoughts.

You can shop the 80/20 parts at Baddogg CNC. Good luck with your project.

I do have the extrusions with me but thank you for the offer thou
Am amazed at the quick service from CNC Router Parts. I ordered these slides on the 17th. I'm in Ohio. I checked the parts out and exactly as described. If i wouldn't have gotten all the extrusions for free I would defiantly be buying one of there kits. This machine will be based off their design and I'll be using there parts. I have been looking at there Nema 23 setup for this.

You should look into beefing up the gantry and vertical support that were given for it. Realizing this is basically a free build that might not be possible. In any event keep us updated in this thread. I like these sort of threads where machines are built from found materials and improvisation.

The 8020 will most likely turn out to be very light weight. I've used 9090 heavy type and i still had to bolt to steel in y and double up in X to remove flex.
Nice bit of 5mm reclaimed steel box section would be stronger and cheaper.
