Want to move to using a bigger machine

Postby Zenkonder » Mon May 23, 2016 7:32 pm

I have got a mini-mill which I have been using for a while and it does marvelous. I have got a project to be done very soon, a project of converting a Bridgeport to CNC. I won’t be possible for me to use the semi-auto-manual tool change macros on a bigger machine. The Bridgeport is so flexible and I won’t find a place to fix those fixed height sense plates. What other options do I have other than using floating probe for almost every tool change?

You can use pre-set tools offset.

I had that in mind but R8 collets are used to hold the tools. so pre-set tools offset is out of question.

How about using one of the bed’s corners off the second plate for touch? I tend to think that any insulated plate that is bolted on a T-slot would work just as those used in the mini mill.
