Let me contribute something to this thread. I believe that one should also consider the EFC (electronic feedback circuitry). This feature prevents the motor from stalling. It controls the load that you will place on the motor. It also puts some adjustment to the torque output.

I once did it but with the manual mill being one that was limited in Y. However i too had intended to surface a 12-in square plate and double-side taped the work piece to the top of the rotary table. This was something that worked well enough given that the only thing needed were light surfacing cut...

Double side machining

I am still learning about CNC machining. I however have some IGES/STL files that i want to have machined double sided, though there are relatively small and out of swiss pear. For instance, one measures 122.7mm by 8.16mm by 30.37mm.
I was wondering if this is actually possible....?

It depends on the port. Look if it is an m8x1 or m8x1.25 then we'll have a better picture.
